SUMMARY:Bashakill Marsh and Environs
DESCRIPTION:\nDate: Saturday, May 3, 2025\n\n\n\nLeader: John HaasCarpool Trip: Drivers willing to provide rides are encouraged to attend. The Registrar will work with participants without a vehicle to organize rides and share the suggested carpool fee for the driver. This usually works out, but we can not guarantee a ride unless there are enough enough volunteer drivers.Meeting Point: After your registration is confirmed, the Registrar will share directions, the exact meeting place, and time with attendees.Schedule: Full-day tripRelative Difficulty: The terrain is mainly flat. Expect trails and boardwalks in some wet areas, which could also be muddy.Trip Description:The Bashakill Marsh, located in both Sullivan and Orange Counties, is the largest freshwater wetland in southeastern New York State. It is a state-designated Bird Conservation Area, with over 220 species of birds recorded. The area supports characteristic wetland-dependent species, abundant waterfowl, and several species at risk. Highlights include Common Gallinule, empids such as Alder Flycatcher, migrating and nesting warblers, vireos, cuckoo species, raptors, and more.\n\n\n\nPlease read T ( https://www.linnaeannewyork.org/wp-content/uploads/PDF/LSNY-COVID-19-Guidelines-2021-06-20.pdf )he Linnaean Society of New York COVID-19 Field Trip Guidelines ( https://www.linnaeannewyork.org/covid-19-field-trip-guidelines/ ) before registering.\n\n\n\nRegistration: Registration opens at 9 am on Monday, April 21.
