SUMMARY:Breezy Point
DESCRIPTION:\nDate: Saturday, January 25, 2025 — TRIP FULL —\n\n\n\nLeader: David SpawnTransportation: Carpool Trip – Drivers willing to provide rides are encouraged to attend. The Registrar will work with participants without a vehicle to organize rides and share the suggested carpool fee for the driver. This usually works out, but we can not guarantee a ride without enough volunteer drivers.Meeting Point: After your registration is confirmed, the Registrar will share directions, the exact meeting place, and time with attendees.Schedule: The trip will end during the mid-afternoon.Relative Difficulty: We plan to walk for several miles over sand at the water’s edge.Trip Description: Breezy Point, Queens, is located on the western end of the Rockaway peninsula, between Rockaway Inlet and Jamaica Bay to the north and the Atlantic Ocean to the west and south. It is part of Gateway National Recreation Area, which the National Park Service manages. This isolated, 200-acre area includes an ocean-facing beach, a shoreline on Jamaica Bay, dunes, and marshland. \n\n\n\nWe expect to see both Common and Red-throated Loons, Common Eiders, Long-tailed Ducks, and Red-breasted Mergansers, and if we are lucky, we may get Razorbills and Purple Sandpipers. Be sure to dress for cold winter weather with possible winds.\n\n\n\nPlease read T ( https://www.linnaeannewyork.org/wp-content/uploads/PDF/LSNY-COVID-19-Guidelines-2021-06-20.pdf )he Linnaean Society of New York COVID-19 Field Trip Guidelines ( https://www.linnaeannewyork.org/covid-19-field-trip-guidelines/ ) before registering.\n\n\n\nRegistration: Registration opens at 9 am on Monday, January 13. After that time, click here to register ( https://www.linnaeannewyork.org/registration-carpool/?debug=n&regstart=1%2F13%2F25+9%3A00+am&tripdate=1%2F25%2F25&tripname=Breezy+Point&tripleader=David+Spawn&regname=Matthew+Fischer&regemail=matthewwfischer@gmail.com&tripwd=Saturday&confirmemail=matthewwfischer@gmail.com&regend=1%2F22%2F25+6%3A00+pm ).
