SUMMARY:Croton Point Park
DESCRIPTION:\nDate: Sunday, March 2, 2025\n\n\n\nLeader: Ethan GoodmanTransportation: Public Transportation – Participants can use public transportation to arrive at the meeting location.Meeting Point: After your registration is confirmed, the Registrar will share directions, the exact meeting place, and time with attendees.Schedule: Public Transportation – The group will meet at Grand Central and take a train to Croton-Harmon Station on Metro North Railroad’s Hudson River line. This trip will start later than our normal trips, as we will want to stay out until after dusk to increase our chances of seeing owls. The exact meeting place and time will be confirmed after registraion, but it could start as late as noon.Relative Difficulty: Moderate. Be prepared to walk about five miles on a slow, at times steep, upgrade and downgrade. This walk can be tiring.Trip Description: Croton Point Park is a 508-acre park on a peninsula on the east shore of the Hudson River. Easily reached by public transportation or car, the walk begins at the train station where Bald Eagles typically nest. This location is well known for Red-headed Woodpeckers. In past years, we have seen Great Horned Owls, Eastern Screech Owls, American Tree Sparrows, Field Sparrows, Horned Larks, Snow Buntings, Common Goldeneyes, and Common Mergansers, among other species. This lengthy and often chilly walk includes hills, fields, pine groves, and a large landfill.\n\n\n\nPlease read T ( https://www.linnaeannewyork.org/wp-content/uploads/PDF/LSNY-COVID-19-Guidelines-2021-06-20.pdf )he Linnaean Society of New York COVID-19 Field Trip Guidelines ( https://www.linnaeannewyork.org/covid-19-field-trip-guidelines/ ) before registering.\n\n\n\nRegistration:  Registration opens at 9 am on Monday, February 17.
