This walking route covers all the major hotspots of the North Woods and provides interesting insights into this lesser-known area of Central Park. The typical route starts at the Great Hill (which has bathrooms). It continues to the Children’s Glades, South Blowdown, Balancing Rock, The Pool, Sparrow Rock, East Blowdown, The Block House, Lily Ponds, The Loch, Wildflower Meadow, Grassy Knoll, the Compost Heap, the Nursery, the Conservatory Garden (another bathroom opportunity), and the Harlem Meer (including the recently opened Davis Center), before circling back to The Loch and Pool. Bird species along this walk might include the Scarlet Tanager, Eastern Towhee, Ruby-crowned Kinglet, Yellow-throated Vireo, Green Heron, Wood Thrush, House Wren, and Red-tailed Hawk.
