SUMMARY:Central Park Botany Walk in the North End
DESCRIPTION:\nDate: Saturday, May 23, 2026\n\n\n\nLeader: Regina AlvarezTransportation: Public Transportation: Participants can use public transportation to arrive at the meeting location.Meeting Point: After your registration is confirmed, the Registrar will share directions, the exact meeting place, and time with attendees.Schedule: Full-day trip, with a mid-morning start.Relative Difficulty: The terrain is mainly level, with some small inclines. It can be quite hot at this time of year, so dress appropriately and bring water.Trip Description: Be prepared for a fascinating journey into botany and the symbiotic relationships between the different organisms, from the majestic Tulip Tree to the tiny flowers of Duckweed covering The Pond. We begin by examining the reproductive parts of flowering plants and learning how they are designed for pollination and seed dispersal. We will also learn which plants are native and which are non-native. Along our route, we will look at ferns that produce spores on the backs of their fronds and non-plants, such as lichens, fungi, and more.\n\n\n\nTo enhance your experience, please bring a notebook, a magnifying glass, or a small pair of close-focus binoculars. Our leader will have a small number of magnifiers to lend to those without this equipment. Water and snacks are always helpful as this walk often happens in hot weather.\n\n\n\nPlease read T ( https://www.linnaeannewyork.org/wp-content/uploads/PDF/LSNY-COVID-19-Guidelines-2021-06-20.pdf )he Linnaean Society of New York COVID-19 Field Trip Guidelines ( https://www.linnaeannewyork.org/covid-19-field-trip-guidelines/ ) before registering.\n\n\n\nRegistration: Registration opens at 9 am on Monday, May 11.
