SUMMARY:Fort Tilden
DESCRIPTION:\nDate: Saturday, October 18, 2025\n\n\n\nLeader: Richard ZainEldeenTransportation: Carpool Trip: Drivers willing to provide rides are encouraged to attend. The Registrar will work with participants without a vehicle to organize rides and share the suggested carpool fee for the driver. This usually works out, but we can not guarantee a ride without enough volunteer drivers.Meeting Point: After your registration is confirmed, the Registrar will share directions, the exact meeting place, and time with attendees.Schedule: The trip will end in the early afternoon.Relative Difficulty: Expect about four-plus miles of walking over flat, easy terrain.Trip Description: Fort Tilden, on the Rockaway Peninsula in southern Queens, is part of the Gateway National Recreation Area, including the Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge. Scheduled to coincide with sparrow migration, this is an excellent location to see a Nelson’s Sparrow among the many other sparrow species. If the wind conditions are right, fall is a great time for seeing migrating raptors including Accipiters, Falcons, Buteos in the sky. Late warblers, vireos, and other passerines also visit this area, and the Royal Terns never disappoint.\n\n\n\nPlease read T ( https://www.linnaeannewyork.org/wp-content/uploads/PDF/LSNY-COVID-19-Guidelines-2021-06-20.pdf )he Linnaean Society of New York COVID-19 Field Trip Guidelines ( https://www.linnaeannewyork.org/covid-19-field-trip-guidelines/ ) before registering.\n\n\n\nRegistration: Registration: Registration opens at 9 am on Monday, October 6.
