Central Park Fall Migration Walk with Alan Drogin, Elijah Shiffer, and Kevin Sisco, 10/6/2026

Registrar: Mindy Kaufman
Participants: 51
Weather: Sunny in the 50’s
Bird species: 47

It was a beautiful, sunny day, although a little chilly with fall weather. We had three groups and started out in Strawberry Fields where we saw multiple species of warblers, sparrows, and woodpeckers, including a beautiful Cape May Warbler in bright plumage. After Strawberry Fields, the groups headed towards various areas including the Ramble, Falconer’s Statue, and other parts of Central Park.

Zak Kaletsch, Senior Associate of Advocacy and Outreach at NYC Bird Alliance joined us, and spoke briefly about artificial light at night and its impact on migrating birds, and what we can do to support legislation currently before the City Council that would reduce unnecessary nighttime lighting.
