Choose a membership category and send in your application with a check
Choose from one of four membership categories, all tax-deductible.
Becoming a Member is easy: Just submit an application with your contact information, sponsorship, & payment.
- Download the Membership Application Form (PDF). Then print it and fill it out.
- Find a sponsor. What is sponsorship? Following in the tradition of many societies formed at the turn of the 19th century, sponsorship simply means that a current member recommends you as a new member.
Don’t know any members? Not to worry-any board member will happily answer questions and become your sponsor. - Choose from one of the following membership categories:
Active | $45 | For active members living in the New York City area. |
Supporting | $100 | For those able to provide additional support for the Society’s activities. |
Associate | $30 | Open to persons living more than 50 miles from the American Museum of Natural History or full-time students. |
Life | $800 | Life membership can be paid in full or in up to four equal and consecutive, annual installments. |

Once your application is recevied, on a monthly basis, sponsored applicants are approved by The Linnaean Society of New York Board of Directors and then voted in by members. (We promise it’s much less intimidating than it sounds!) Your membership will be confirmed via a welcome packet, which includes a schedule of events (lectures, field trips, etc.) and a membership directory.
Active, Supporting, Associate and Life Members vote to elect the Society’s officers and directors. The Society’s program year begins in September, and renewal dues are payable that month. Membership applications are not reviewed during June, July, and August.
Membership dues support the activities of the Society, including its meetings, field trips, and the production of publications. The Society is a tax-exempt organization under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Dues are tax-deductible as provided by law.
* If you don’t have a checking account, the society’s treasurer can arrange for you to pay via PayPal. Just make a note that you will be paying via PayPal on your membership application. Once the treasurer receives your application, they will contact you with instruction on how to make a PayPal payment.
