NYS State Young Birder’s Club Walk with LSNY on Governor’s Island

Trip Description: For the young birders in your life (aged 10-19), this trip is managed by New York State Ornithological Association (NYSOA) for its Young Birders Club, with leaders from Linnaean. See description and link below for sign up on their site.

Sponsoring NYSYBC Partner: The Linnaean Society of New York: 172-acre Governors Island is situated in the heart of New York Harbor. Just minutes from Lower Manhattan and the Brooklyn waterfront and reachable only by ferry, this car-free and unique destination has a multitude of attractions including an award-winning park with dozens of historic buildings, year-round educational and cultural facilities, a rich arts and culture program, and a 22-acre National Monument managed by the National Park Service. A former Army and Coast Guard base, Governors Island is open to the public year-round.
There are plenty of excellent birding opportunities on Governors Island. A variety of habitats including expansive lawns, mature trees, garden installations, and the waters around the island provide ample places for year-round and seasonal avian visitors. But for birders, the excitement peaks in September when thousands of migratory birds stop on the Island or pass overhead as they wing their way south along the Atlantic flyway.
