Annual Meeting
The annual meeting is the highlight of the Society’s year, when we award the prestigious Eisenmann Medal, the Natural History Service Award, and the Shelda Taylor Award (for deserving teachers) to individuals who have made contributions to ornithology and natural history. It is also the time to reflect on the Society’s activities over the past year, as well as to elect officers for the year to come.

To encourage as many members as possible to attend, ticket prices are kept to a level as low as possible, despite the rising cost of the event in New York City. All members are therefore encouraged to help underwrite the costs of the meeting in whatever way they can.

Central Park Bird Feeders Seed Fund
The Linnaean Society is seeking $700 in contributions for the 2023-2024 season to purchase bird seed for the feeders at Evodia Field in Central Park. Would you kindly chip in some money to help our feathered friends make it through a cold winter? The titmouses, chickadees, and finches thank you! Eisenmann Medal
The Eisenmann Medal was established in 1983 in memory of Eugene Eisenmann, an amateur ornithologist and long-time member of the LSNY who passed away in 1981. Each year the Society awards the Eisenmann Medal to an individual who has made substantial contributions to contemporary ornithology and has helped amateurs by taking the time to broaden the experience of young naturalists/students who express an interest in birds. The LSNY helps fund the cost of transportation and hotel for the medalist. This award, presented at the annual meeting in March, is an extension of our support for global conservation efforts of birds and their habitat.

Historic Preservation
The Society installed an archival cabinet for our historic artifacts, thanks to members like you. These artifacts include our original handwritten constitution and the minutes from the first meeting, in 1878. Now the hard work of curating this collection continues.

Publications
The Society periodically publishes Transactions, a scientific research journal, and Proceedings, the periodic compilation of the Society’s status and activities.  Financial support from our membership helps underwrite the production and printing costs of these two publications.
