The Linnaean Society of New York

Starr Saphir Memorial Spring Migration Walk, Central Park

Date: Friday, May 3, 2024

Leader: Lenore Swenson & Alice Deutsch
Public Transportation: (The exact meeting place and time will be shared with attendees after their registration is confirmed.)
Schedule: The walk starts at 8:00 am and if the weather and birds cooperate, will likely go until the early afternoon.
Relative difficulty: The pace will be slow, but there will be some hills.

The fall and spring memorial walks honor Starr Saphir, a legend for her birding skills who led walks for nearly forty years in Central Park and elsewhere. She also taught a course in beginning birding at NYC Audubon and was an inspiration to many. These walks, led by her longtime friend and mentee, will follow traditional paths and principles (“please don’t point at the birds”) of “Starr Trips” of the past.

Please read The Linnaean Society of New York COVID-19 Field Trip Guidelines before registering.

Registration opens at 9 am on Monday, April 22. After that time, click here to register. Registration closes at 6 pm on Tuesday, April 30.

Please read the About Our Trips page, especially if you’re going on a field trip for the first time. It details our field trip policies, recommends what to bring on a trip, and offers other useful information.

If after visiting the About Our Trips page, you still have questions, feel free to contact the registrar via email (or phone, if listed) between the hours of 9 am and 9 pm.
