The Linnaean Society of New York

Central Park Family Walk

Date: Saturday, May 4th, 2024

Leader: Eric Ozawa
Public Transportation
Schedule: 1.5 hours.
Relative difficulty: Moderate. The paths are all paved and passable by strollers, but we will be going up and down inclines from the Great Hill.

Many scientists come to a love of nature first as children. With that in mind, this walk is for children and their families (parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, all are welcome). Together, we will look for the birds migrating through the park, and learn how to find and identify some of these spectacular visitors. We’ll also pay close attention to the plant and insect life along the way.

Let’s meet on the Great Hill, near the restrooms. Then we’ll walk down to the Pool and to the paths of the Loch before circling back to our starting point. Binoculars are helpful if you have them, but they are not required.

Only one registration is required per family. When registering, please be sure to indicate on the form the name and age of the people you will be bringing on the walk.

Children should be accompanied by family members.

Please read The Linnaean Society of New York COVID-19 Field Trip Guidelines before registering.

Registration opens at 9 am on Monday, April 22. After that time, click here to register. Registration closes at 6 pm on Wednesday, May 1.

Please read the About Our Trips page, especially if you’re going on a field trip for the first time. It details our field trip policies, recommends what to bring on a trip, and offers other useful information.

If after visiting the About Our Trips page, you still have questions, feel free to contact the registrar via email (or phone, if listed) between the hours of 9 am and 9 pm.
