Amelia Brackett • The Migratory Bird Treaty of 1916 • 6:00 pm • 5/13/14

Amelia Brackett, who is studying environmental history at NYU, will talk about the Migratory Bird Treaty of 1916. This treaty between the United States and Canada was the first successful wildlife treaty. Federal ornithological research, pursuing new ways to protect crops, brought biases that influenced which avian species would be protected–and which would not. Still in effect today, the treaty has been expanded to include Mexico, Russia, and Japan.
